From 16 to 30 May 2025, twenty S5 students, accompanied by two teachers and one parent, took part in a remarkable educational and humanitarian journey to Guatemala as part of the EEB1 Guatemala Solidarity Project 2025.

A Journey of Encounters and Meaning

The trip began in Antigua, where the group explored the country’s cultural richness and social challenges. It continued in Quetzaltenango, where students worked with Caras Alegres, an organisation supporting over 60 children in a vulnerable neighbourhood.

Over one week, our students led classes in French, English, maths and IT, ran creative workshops, and painted educational murals. They also prepared and served daily meals as part of the “Tarde” after-school programme, which offers daily nutrition and learning support.

Later, in Panajachel and San Juan La Laguna, the group met with Mayan women’s cooperatives working to promote economic independence and cultural preservation.
In San Andrés Itzapa, students were warmly received by Educando Guatemala, and some had the chance to meet the children sponsored from Brussels, seeing the direct result of their solidarity.

The trip concluded in Guatemala City, with a visit to the Belgian Embassy, where students shared their reflections on the project.

A Project with Proven Impact

The 2024–2025 edition builds on last year’s success.
In 2023–2024, a total of €5,873.60 was handed directly to our two partner organisations. That money helped fund school scholarships, daily meals, artistic and educational activities, with a clear and verifiable impact.

This year’s campaign is still in progress, including:

  • donations already received earlier this school year,
  • proceeds from the School Fair (May 2025),
  • and further contributions accepted until 26 June.

The final total for 2024–2025 will be updated and published with full transparency.
