When I took Music 4 as an option in S6-S7, I had no idea it would end up in us going to London on a school trip. I still can’t believe it really happened. I was too small to remember anything from the last time I went to London, so this trip was as if I was visiting the city for the first time, and what an amazing city it is!
During this trip, we got to see The Band’s Visit at the Donmar Warehouse, participate in a performance workshop with 4 music teachers, watch The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, attend service in Westminster Abbey and hear its boys choir, hear a professional Gospel choir rehearse, and the cherry on top, Puccini’s La Bohème at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
All of these musical activities offered us insight into a different genre of music and made this trip very well-rounded from an educational point of view. I found it amazing that we were able to go to so many performances and activities in such a short time frame. We really were immersed in music for the duration of the trip and I got such a boost from it in regards to my motivation in practicing and improving my music but also my love for music in general. This trip reminded me of how important music is to me.
