French
Name of the course: French language courses I, II, III AND IV
Description, General Principles and Objectives
Language I:
The didactic principles are based on the orientations defined by the new French national programs for middle and high school (see BOÉN special edition n ° 9 September 30, 2010 [high school] and special edition n ° 11 of November 26, 2015 [middle school]), as well as by Belgian programs.
The learning objectives are detailed in the document below.
Language II and language II in-depth study:
Learning objectives are standardised with reference to the level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). They are detailed in the document below.
At the end of the primary cycle, the learning objectives are equivalent to level A2.
In the secondary cycle, the levels attained are as follows:
Cycle | Level attained |
S1 + 2 + 3 | Level B1 |
S4 + 5 | Level B2 |
S6 + 7 | Level C1 (LII: approx. C1 +) |
Learning objectives for the 1st cycle (S1-S3):
At the end of the first cycle, the pupil must, among other things, be able to understand a standard language spoken in a distinct way and touching on personal experience, familiar subjects and wider areas of interest. They will also be able to read and understand texts written in standard language, participate in a conversation and exchange information on familiar and everyday subjects. They should also be able to write a coherent text on familiar topics, which expresses individual points of view, experiences or personal impressions, and recognize and use a number of appropriate intercultural codes for speaking with speakers of the target language.
Learning objectives for the 2nd cycle (S4-S5):
Emphasis is placed on understanding and producing relatively complex discussions or arguments on familiar subjects and broad areas of interest, particularly those relating to current affairs. The student will be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the cultural area covered by the target language: society, current topics, literature and its context, and artistic creation in general.
Learning objectives for the 3rd cycle (S6-S7):
At the end of the third cycle, the student must be able to understand the explicit or implicit content of a long speech, or of a more-or-less structured complex argument. They will also be able to present a substantiated and structured argument taking into account their recipient and the latter’s cultural codes. Finally, the focus will be on reading, understanding and analyzing relatively long and complex literary and non-literary texts.
Language III:
The learning objectives are standardised with reference to the level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). They are detailed in the document below.
Acquiring communicative proficiency is the essential goal. The ability to listen, read, take part in a conversation, express oneself orally, and write are all developed, but their respective weight varies according to the cycle.
Language learning III begins in S1. It is compulsory for all pupils from the first to the fifth year and optional in the sixth and seventh years.
